Valganciclovir is an antiviral drug used to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis (eye infection) in people with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It is also used to prevent CMV infection in people who have received a heart, kidney, or kidney–pancreas transplant. This medication works by slowing the growth of CMV. Valganciclovir helps prevent the spread of CMV infection to other areas of the body. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
